Comparison

Looking for a OneTab alternative?

It depends what you came to OneTab for. If it was memory, OneTab is very good at that and SwitchCue does not compete with it. If it was coming back to a piece of work later, read on.

Two different problems

OneTab's answer to a full window is to turn the tabs into a list you can restore later. The window gets lighter, and the list is there when you want it.

SwitchCue's answer is that the tabs were never the hard part. Coming back to a project means remembering what you were in the middle of — so a Workspace holds a project's tabs and one line about the next step, and switching to it reopens both.

QuestionOneTabSwitchCue
Does it close the tabs?Yes. The tabs become a list on one page, which is where the memory saving comes from.Yes, once you agree to it — and they come back together when you switch to that project again.
Does it keep a note on what to do next? Its site lists "folders, tasks, notes and encrypted cross-browser sync" under More Features. One line per project, and only one — no folders and no task list.
Does it sync between machines? Its site lists "encrypted cross-browser sync" among its features.No. Export is the only copy that travels.

OneTab's site lists folders, tasks, notes and encrypted sync under "More Features", without saying which need a paid plan — check their site for details.

What OneTab does better

Freeing memory is what OneTab is for, across every tab in the window — its own page shows 1981 MB becoming 99 MB. SwitchCue makes no claim about memory at all. OneTab also lists folders and sync, which SwitchCue doesn't have (see the table).

Where each one fits

What SwitchCue deliberately does not do

No sync and no account — your Workspaces stay on the computer you made them on, and the privacy policy says exactly what that means. No folders, no task list: one project, one note. If a list of everything you have parked is what you want, this is the wrong tool and OneTab is the right one.

Watch a switch, or compare with Chrome's own tab groups.

Try it on one project

Make a Workspace from the tabs you have open right now. If it is not for you, uninstalling removes everything it stored.
